Communities are not blank spaces waiting for a programme. People already have experience, responsibilities, relationships, strengths, barriers and ways of solving problems.

A useful community development process begins by listening carefully enough to understand what is already present, what is getting in the way and what change is realistic.

For Mishqah that means looking beyond programme activity to participant experience. Who can access the opportunity? What makes participation difficult? Does the learning make sense in the local context? Are facilitators prepared? Is there a useful path after the intervention?

Mishqah's experience has been shaped across Cape Town and the Western Cape, including Bonteheuwel, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Mitchells Plain, Rocklands, Westridge, Hanover Park, Manenberg, Athlone, Heideveld, Atlantis, Strandfontein, Blue Downs, Rylands, Delft and Velddrif.

These places are a record of programme footprint rather than a list of search terms. Cape Flats community development work only holds up when the design reflects the conditions people actually live with.

Her community service experience also includes stationery support for families in Bonteheuwel, toiletry support in Bonteheuwel and the Cape Town CBD, clothing donations through The Haven Night Shelter and volunteer service with older community members through Impact Direct Ministries.

ReCha, a recycling enterprise development initiative, is one of the strongest examples of Mishqah's work across community engagement, entrepreneurship learning and programme delivery.

Her contribution included recruitment, onboarding, training, business masterclasses, support sessions, excursions, stakeholder engagement, programme logistics, financial literacy and ongoing participant support. More than 1,690 people aged approximately 18 to 60 were supported through ReCha training and development.
